Understanding Cyber Security

The amount of data that organisations work with on a daily basis continues to grow year on year. As a consequence securing this information is critically important. In 2011 and 2012, we have seen a number of high profile breaches, and consequently, regulatory bodies are taking more interest in the way in which organisations protect their data.
As part of this CSO service, Nettitude can generate information security policies & procedures, to help provide the foundations for strong information security practice. Where appropriate, Nettitude can attend monthly or quarterly executive meetings and board meetings, and feed in to the information security decisions that are made by the leadership team.
Consistent with Nettitude’s governance, risk and compliance services, Nettitude can provide GRC services to the organization and truly take on some of the roles that a Chief Security Officer would perform.

We recognise the importance of this role and consequently only our most experienced and seasoned cprovide virtual CSO services. This team consists of highly experienced consultants that are well versed in risk management techniques. All of Nettitude’s virtual CSO consultants have strong backgrounds in leadership and are experienced in engaging with directors and C’ Level executives.

What is happening in the current cyber security landscape?

2013 we are seeing more significant exposures in core desktop applications, which leave home users susceptible to data breach. In the corporate world, we have seen assaults become more sophisticated, and hackers are now using targeted information collected from social media. With the continued growth of mobile and tablet technology, we expect to see increased vulnerabilities in mobile applications.

Why is it important to take the threat seriously?

Security training and security awareness should be high on everyone’s agenda – people are frequently the weakest link in the chain. Until we can educate users on how to practise strong security techniques, hackers will still continue to compromise organizations and steal data.

What can be done to prepare for wider security challenges?

Security training and security awareness should be high on everyone’s agenda – people are frequently the weakest link in the chain. Until we can educate users on how to practise strong security techniques, hackers will still continue to compromise organizations and steal data.

What can organizations do to protect themselves and their customers?

Security is not just about software or hardware products. We find that most organisations that are hacked have firewalls and other security technology. They just are not configured effectively, and the users that interact with them don’t have appropriate security training.
